LaRoe's Guide to Successful Remodeling

Every homeowner wants a successful remodeling project, and so do we. We’ve compiled a few simple guidelines that can help you towards your successful remodeling project.

Define what you want

  • Identify the problems you have with your current home. Is it too small? Does it look outdated?
  • Identify what you wish you could do in your home. Do you wish you could spend more quality time with family? Do you wish you had a peaceful place to work?
  • Identify what you want from your home. Do you want it to be more energy efficient? Do you want a warm and inviting atmosphere? Do you want your home to make a statement on who you are?
  • Make a list of your needs, wants and priorities to share with your remodeler.
  • Think about what you want to invest.
  • Be realistic and flexible in your expectations of what your budget can accomplish.

Choose the right remodeler

  • Find the right remodeler for you and your project. Look for one that not only does the quality work you are looking for, but also someone you can trust and feel comfortable with. (See Selecting the Right Remodeler and Questions to Ask Remodelers and Questions to Ask References for more tips.)
  • Consider the value of a design/build remodeler. They bring the project’s design and construction all under one roof, offering you a simpler, safer, and more cost effective way to remodel.

Communicate

  • Choose a remodeler that is willing to listen to you and your concerns.
  • Share your project ideas, needs, and wants with your remodeler. Together you can explore your options and develop the design solution best for you.
  • Express your priorities to your remodeler. They’ll be able to provide more of what is important to you.
  • Listen to your remodeler, especially when it comes to deadlines for product selections. This will help your project stay on schedule.
  • Communicate with your remodeler openly and honestly. Your remodeler cannot address your concerns if they don’t know them.

Following the above suggestions will go a long way in making sure your remodeling project will be successful.
